just a little hello!

I would love to tell you i haven't been on the web lately coz i was very very busy creating but unfortunately..no!
I am actually very busy in the Real Life but not in DreamLand!
The "Real Life" knocked on my door last november, asking me to leave DreamLand for a little while...The Real Life said i was a grown-up with some responsabilities...so i had to do something about it!
So here i am, trying to have a "grown-up" life with all the boring stuff that comes with it..i'm planning to get out of it as soon as possible but Real Life didn't tell me how long this will last so i'm trying to be patient and to enjoy it.
But Art is a drug and i'm lacking it badly...

Real Life and me have never been good friends!

Hi everyone!

I think it's time for me to hurry up to wish you all a Happy New Year, let's hope it will be magical or at least as best as it could be! ;)

The first part of year is going to be pretty busy for me, new projects, not just in doll making, so fingers crossed things go quite smoothly! I will let you know about it all little by little...

But there's one thing i can tell you about and it is one of my main projects for this year...is to finally finish a story i wrote nearly 3 years ago, it needs some touches to make it better and of course, the main thing: the illustrations!!!
I did start a couple...3 years ago too, but they are all kind of "sketches" and i'm going to try to make them better too. This is what i made at the time and hopefully i'll be able to show you very soon the new ones! :)

Apple Crumble

This is Apple Crumble, i took her with me to the dolls show in La Rochelle but she is now off to Spain! My dolls travel more than i do, i'd love to go with them sometimes!

Anyway, this little one is called Apple Crumble as i tend to bake a lot of them at the moment, it is just as simple as that! ;)

I'm back from my first Dolls Show in La Rochelle where i had a fantastic week-end! I was surrounded by very nice people who make great dolls and bears!

I had a nice feedback and made few sales so i'm very happy as i was so anxious about it! Now i have more motivation than ever, lots of projects in my head!
My main one is to finally illustrate the few stories i wrote over the last few years, time is just lacking terribly!

Bunny Girl and a loopy time!

Hello everyone!

At last i'm taking some time to give you a bit of news! i have been quite busy lately, as you know i'm getting ready for my first dolls show in less than 3 weeks now.
I have to admit that i really start to stress now, although i like my dolls to have raw finishing touches, i keep thinking they will look too tatty amongst the beautiful creations that will be at the dolls show! Aaargggh!
That's probably just my opinion, but it seems that in France, dolls are mainly "neat and pretty", i don't know if you know what i mean...and i don't know if i'm right or not!

To be honest i think these dolls are gorgeous but with mine i love to make them like if they'd been found in an old attic, handmade by an old woman and her grand-daughter with what they had in their sewing basket!

Yes i do go a bit loopy with my imagination when i make a doll, i don't just think about their story or their character but i also think of the story of the person who would have made them.
I jump back in time, i picture a cute little cottage, with flowery wallpaper, the nice smell of a cake just baked floating in the air and some warm tea on the table! Then i imagine this old woman showing her grand-daughter how to basicaly sew some bits of fabric and lace on a quite primitive doll.
I could talk about them two for hours but unfortunately i don't really have much time and you might not want to know anyway!! hehe!!

Oh my god, i'm so anxious!!! Showing your work is like showing a big part of yourself, good and bad comments about it really have a strong impact on yourself!

So let's take a deep breath, a cup of tea and let's get on with it!! Thank you for reading me, it felt good to let it all out! haha!

Fairies...

I took a little break from dollmaking just to make some tiny fairy figurines, i used to make a lot them until i started dolls.
I was selling them in Camden Market in London over 6 years ago, it was a lot of fun and i met very nice people over there!

I also sold them in a tiny gorgeous village in the south of France....anyway the little fairies just brought back memories and it was nice to make some again, but as i said this was just a break as i'm now preparing a doll show which will take place in La Rochelle (a pretty town by the sea!) on december the 4th. I'm really looking forward to it as this will be the first time i will show my work amongst over dolls and teddy bears artists.

Once upon a time in an old village, people could hear a strange noise at night...In fact it was always at the same time of year...in October!

And if you walked by the church through the graveyard, the noise was louder and louder...

One night some strangers were so curious that they walked inside the church, a bright light came through the window but it was still dark outside....

Suddenly appeared a strange dead beauty on her bed....

The strangers were so scared that when they turned away they saw a Halloween Princess ghost sitting in a corner of the church with her spider...

Would you dare walking in the dark in such places? Well maybe it could be a nice place for a Halloween Party if you're a ghost!

This is a part of my studio filled with dolls in progress and other things, i've been quite busy this week but i managed to have a break with some tiny fairies for a cup of tea. To be honest i think they are quite desperate about the state of the room, it definitely needs some cleaning!
Sometimes housekeeping takes the second place!

Anyway, i can't wait to show you the dolls all finished, they don't really look attractive this way! ;)

I'm terribly greedy and i love baking cakes!

I remember the first time i "discovered" cake decorating, it was over six years ago and i was living in London, and every week-ends i was going away with my boyfriend in the countryside or in the towns nearby, so one sunday we went to Oxford and i saw some gorgeous cakes in a little shop and i thought "this is what i want to do"....but then i was expecting my first baby and i carried on making fairy figurines and then dolls!
But I think cake decorating is calling me again, i think wedding cakes are just gorgeous and some can be a real masterpiece!
I was supposed to start a course this year, but i'm pushing it again for next year until my little girl starts school!
Yes it looks like i will start this course 6 years and two children after i first discoverd Sugarcraft and cake decorating....you just have to be patient sometimes!

Back to School!

Yes summer holidays are now over, but all seasons have their nice sides and every year i'm really happy to get ready for autumn, my favorite season! I know we still have few more weeks of summer to enjoy but i can't help it when school time is coming i think of all the nice things that autumn brings!
I live in a "wine making" area so very soon people will start picking up grapes, it will smell lovely around the vineyards, the colours will be very pretty too! We will go mushrooms picking and will make pumpkin soup! Can't wait!

Anyway, this is a little picture of one my dolls in progress, this one will be called Léontine and as you can see she will be wearing a very cute pair of glasses! Yes, even dolls go back to school very soon! ;)

Hi!!!!

Well the last couple of months have been very busy for me as i was making over 20 dolls for my friend's wedding in August. I had to put some orders and projects aside for that reason and now it's time for me to take a break much needed as i'm terribly on edge at the moment! I get easily irritated and nobody deserves to handle that! ;)
So off i am from now to the 22nd of august!!

But before i take a break, i'm taking a little moment to show you one of the dolls i've made for my friend. It took me so much time to finish them all, unfortunately not many people are aware of how much time can be spent in the making of one doll! :(

Anyway, i put my bad mood in the trash and off i am to come back all hapy and refreshed!!! :)

Hi everyone!

sorry for not posting more often and so sorry if i haven't been a very good Mad Tea Partier. The day just after the party i was supposed to take my time to visit all of you but my little cat went missing and i have been searching for him! Unfortunately we still haven't found him, some people told me cats can go away for a while and then come back, but it has been over two weeks now and i don't have much hopes...

On a happier note and to get back to the doll making world, i'm showing you a picture of the doll i'm actually working on for a short film. She is supposed to fit in a post apocalyptic world, i'll show you more pictures as soon as i finish it! :)

Anyway, i hope you're all having a nice summer so far, on my side i'll be visiting my fiancé's family on the Isle of Wight at the beginnig of august, can't wait to see the sea, it's been a while!
I'll be visiting the dolls museum other there, i've already seen it, the dolls looked a bit creepy as they are very old but i think it might be quite inspiring! :)

Once upon a time there was a little girl who was a bit bored...one evening as she was walking in the dark she saw something shining in the grass, when she looked over she found a beautiful mirror.

"Oh i'm so bored..." she said with a sigh.

After saying those words, the little girl fell through the mirror and reappeared in front of a big suitcase where she found few old dolls, a tea pot, an old book and a magic wand.

The dolls were whispering something, but the girl couldn't hear them...

"What? what are you saying?" she asked.

"Come and have some tea!" said the Mad Hatter with excitement, then he poured some tea in a tiny cup.

But the little girl saw a pretty bottle with a gorgeous butterfly and on that bottle there was a tag where it was written "Drink Me".

"Oh i'm not sure i should..." she said quietly.

"Of course you can, it's all in your head, the bottle is empty!" laughed a couple of fairies.

"Well maybe i will have a cupcake instead, i am sooo greedy!"

These lovely brooches are from the 1920's, they are absolutely gorgeous and the one with the flowers has been handpainted and signed, so pretty!
It's funny when you try to imagine the lady who might have worn them in the past, it's like a jump back in time, it's quite nice really. :)

This is Elise my latest doll (and not the first time i call a doll Elise!), she is slightly different from all the dolls i've made so far as i tried to age her and stained her dress with tea. She also has unusual feet as i first imagined her being a ghost and floatting in the air...
But i don't imagine her as a ghost anymore, not since i've added this little pretty butterfly brooch that i bought last week from a nice lady. The brooch is from the 1920's, so pretty and so delicate. I was nicely suprised about the pin at the back, i won't know how to explain but it's definitely different from nowadays brooches.
I'll have to show you the other treasures i got on the same day, two taxidermy butterflies in 1960's frames...lovely!

Well, i'm grieving this evening...

Nothing very serious for the ones who don't love dolls...
Let me explain: i was experimenting with new techniques recently, enjoying myself very much with them and loved the new doll i was making!
At some point i noticed that something went wrong, but thought i'll manage to fix it, i loved the doll so much i had to be able to fix it!
I carried on with Domitille, as she already had a name, and kept loving her...but i loved her so much that she cracked and i never managed to fix it...

So here is Domitille, broken doll who will rest for the rest of my life on my window sill...

Oh, i have spent so much time on Faustine that i can't concentrate enough to write her a proper story! :(

I made a special effort in her dress, playing with the old black lace that i bought last summer. It was in a lovely little french village where there was the annual brocante. I turned up very late as i didn't even know there was one and most people were going home when i saw that lady with a huge table of old lace and embroideries. She made my day! :)

So here is Faustine, a doll who probably belongs to another era and who is surely listening to the birds singing and day dreaming...

...when i have crazy moments like yesterday, it makes me realise that i don't live in the right place...I've lived in London few years ago and that is probably the only place on earth where i really felt at home and met great people (not that i haven't met nice people since!!).
Anyway, i was just about to get a little unit in Camden Market when life decided otherwise, it's not always a bad thing, but God! i miss this place soooo much, it's almost like a drug!! (it must be a drug!).
And when the nice weather is back, i think: Camden, crazy looks, cool music, London buses, indian food, goths and the list goes on and on...
Little consolation, i'll be in England in august and i think i'll have to get Camden out of my system for a little while and get a stall for a week-end!

Fairies wear Wellies!!!

Yes Fairies wear Wellies and Smurf tights!! I'm having fun today and i'm not afraid of looking ridiculous...as we say in french, it doesn't kill!! :)
As well as making dolls i'm really enjoying making accessories at the moment...accessories for big and young fairies! I have put few brooches and bracelets in my Dawanda shop and just added that flowery crown few minutes ago (they will be more to come)!

I'm off now..i have few more dolls to finish and then i'll have tea on a toadstool with a rabbit (i'll show you the rabbit next time!) !

Candy's parents owned a sweet shop, but still they were very surprised to see that their daughter had candy floss hair when she was born.
Naturally they called her Candy, but it is not easy to live with that kind of hair, everybody tends to laugh at her, especially when she goes to a fun fair!

Les parents de Candy possédaient une confiserie, malgré tout ils furent très surpris de voir leur fille naître avec des cheveux en barbe à papa.
Naturellement ils la baptisèrent Candy, mais ce n'est pas toujours évident de vivre avec ses cheveux là, les gens ont tendance à rire de Candy surtout si elle se rend à une fête foraine...

Justine would have loved to be the queen of the fairies or pretty butterflies, but life has decided otherwise and the moths are now her best friends...but there is a nice side about it, she can now dance all night long under the moon light.

Justine aurait préféré être la reine des fées ou des jolis papillons que l'on voit voler avec légèreté au-dessus des prairies, mais la nature en a décidé autrement et Justine est devenue reine des Papillons de Nuit...il y a malgré tout un petit côté agréable à posséder ce titre, Justine peut danser sous les lumières de la lune toute la nuit si elle en a envie...

Une arrivée timide des fées...

Voilà une toute petite fée réalisée en polymère... et moi qui avais dit que je ne retoucherai plus à cette pâte, et bien je me suis surprise à repasser commande et à faire une fée...enfin légèrement différente de toutes les fées que je créais avant! Je me retrouve à plonger dans mes archives et à me remémorer mes débuts de blogueuse (à l'époque sur canalblog) et puis j'ai pensé que ce serait sympa de recommencer les vidéos de défilé de mode des fées (s'il y a parmi vous des ancien(ne)s qui s'en souviennent)!
Et puis je pense ouvrir un blog dans le courant de l'année ou vous pourrez régulièrement suivre les petites histoires de mignons petits personnages qui vivent dans un univers bien à eux...je vous tiendrai informés! :)

Bonne journée à tous et continuons de rêver, car l'actualité de notre petite planète a la fâcheuse manie de nous plomber le moral depuis quelques temps!

It's a fresh start on my side, i moved during the christmas holidays and even if our little nest is far to be finished, i have set a little corner so i can start working on my dolls again!
I don't know what's going to happen this year, but i plan to write and make dolls up til the summer holidays, then we'll take a break in England with our family and this will be another "fresh start" in the year!
I haven't made any good resolutions this year, they are completely pointless for me, it never works but this year has to be a good one!! :)

I have been dreaming of making wands for years but never had the right idea for it...so with bits of fabric, flowers and lace i finally made them!!
They will be soon available in my shop if you want to make a wish (update on monday, november 8th)!

A tiny doll...in a match box...

When we were little, my sisters and I used to receive lots of tiny dolls that my mum could find in any random shops...I think i get the love for small things and dolls from her..
One day, she got two tiny dolls in a match box for my sisters (i wasn't born at that time) and i have always heard them talking about how happy they were with these tiny characters...

Quand nous étions petites, ma maman avait pour habitude de dénicher à mes soeurs et moi, les plus petites poupées qu'elle pouvait trouver dans n'importe quel magasin. C'est d'ailleurs à elle que je dois cet amour pour tout ce qui est petit et surtout pour les poupées!
Un jour elle a trouvé deux petites merveilles dans des boîtes d'allumettes qu'elle a offertes à mes soeurs (je n'étais pas née à l'époque) et depuis j'entends toujours parler de ces petites poupées qui ont été reçues comme des trésors...

Halloween Party...

Once upon a time there was a little doll who lived in an old lady's attic, the poor doll had enough of catching dust and was dreaming of the sun light and beautiful flowers where butterflies could sit on...

Unfortunately the only company she had was Hazel the mouse who was only coming in the attic to nibble on apples, nuts and lace..

So the doll wished someone could help her....when suddenly a strange White Lady appeared...

It was Halloween and the White Lady ghost heard the doll...she really wanted to do something for her and with a black cauldron and a couple of magic spells....

The White Lady gave to the doll an enchanted key to escape.....

....and visit A Fanciful Twist and other partiers for a wonderful Halloween Party!!

As you can imagine, the doll was really happy!

Oh my...I must be a little bit crazy as i'm desperate to have a Christmas tree in my living room! A couple of weeks ago i was really into Halloween and now i'm just about to cut eyes shapes on a big pumpkin, i just can't wait to decorate my Christmas tree!! I'm hopeless!
Anyway, the good side of it is that i'm feeling quite inspired to make some ornaments or cute little dollies...
So time for tea to warm up my fingers (it is rather fresh here, and raining...), it's also time to play some inspiring music and i'm off!!! :)

I started that doll with no strong idea of how i wanted her to be, it's only when i finished her that she reminded me a bit of a Snow Queen, she's so pale and she blends so well with the white tissue paper she's sitting on...

Well i have been trying to answer that question for quite a long time now and have been writing a story about it for over a year now...
Hopefully very soon i'll be able to tell you more about these fairy seeds...they just don't grow anywhere...

It seems like i've left this blog aside for far too long!!
I have been quite busy recently and made the decision to go back to university after....pfff a very long time!! And honestly i start thinking it was a crazy idea!! I am under mountains of work to keep up and catch up so this is why i have done a "doll-making break"! But i'm missing the clay, fabrics and laces far too much!
So this week-end i'm going to be creative again!
Recently i have found some lovely treasures, i bought lots of keys in a brocante and some of them have been made under Napoleon, i would love to make something with them!
And yesterday, as i was walking on the river side next to the uni (wondering why i was studying again!), i found these lovely acorns hats which i think little fairies should wear! Autumn is here now and always very inspiring to me...
So i'm really hoping to show you some new dolls by the end of next week!

This is Capucine, the tallest doll i've ever made, she measures 44 cm - 17.9 inches. I have to say i love making big dolls, i just have so much fun making their dress, doing their hair and putting a light make-up on!
Now i just need to find a little story for Capucine, this is an other part of fhe fun i have every time i finish a doll, they all have a story, something that makes them unique and special!

Miss LadyBird never had much friends at school so she ended up spending a lot of times in her grandmother's garden where she met thousands of ladybirds.
Quickly they became really attracted to her red dress and never let the young girl alone!

This is my last little doll called Lynelle.

Lynelle is a sweet little girl and what she likes the most is to eat delicious cupcakes with a lovely creamy topping!
I'm a bit like her to be honest, yesterday i baked a lovely cake which looked like a birthday cake so i wished to everybody at home a great happy un-birthday time!! They looked at me in a funny way wondering what was wrong with me, i'm obviously the only one who really lives in Wonderland all day long!!

I was in a "sewing mood" today so i took my machine out and made few bracelets in a "Shabby Romantic" style and i have to say i really enjoyed it!!
What i enjoy the most when i make a doll is to make her outfit and to put little accessories in her hair, so playing with fabric, lace, buttons and flowers today was just a lot ot fun!

Alice In Wonderland * ADO blog challenge

So here is Alice made for the ADO blog challenge, i dressed her in red like the drawing on my mum's book from 1953, there are lovely illustrations.
Anyway, little Alice is 30 cm tall (11.8 inches), her legs and arms are jointed to her torso and as you can see, she's not chasing the white rabbit anymore but is going for a ride on his back. That will teach him for running away!! (only joking!!)

A Fanciful Twist threw a party today, and the dolls have been invited...let me explain how it all began...

A lovely flying lady heard the news and told the Butterflies Secrets Keeper who were resting in their cotton nest...

They kept the secret so well that the flying lady had to tell the Roses Fairies who were getting their petals dress ready...

Well it's a good thing that fairies are very chatty, they spread the news and the dolls met for tea...
I know what you're thinking!! It doesn't really look like a Mad Tea Party!! No, not on these pictures, but when the night came, the dolls invited fireflies to create a crazy light in the sky, few musicians played a lively music! Actually they are already on the picture, but you might not see them, they are little fleas and they are quite hard to spot in the grass!
A couple of clown gnomes played some tricks and a famous white rabbit proposed to play Hide & Seek!

I went to a brocante this morning and as i was walking and getting bits and pieces i found this gorgeous vintage postcard. I just loved the colours and the face of the two little girls, it reminded me a bit of the two cousins from Cottingley who took pictures of themselves with fairies...
Anyway, i'm just going to hang it up on my wall for a bit of inspiration...
And talking about the Cottingley Fairies, i'm just about to read the book written by Arthur Conan Doyle, i'm just very curious about it!

Did you know that little butterflies can be your best friends?
They do keep your most precious secrets very well.
This type of butterfly only like to fly under the moon light. During the day they rest on their cotton bed inside their little box...

Hi everybody!

I really wanted to thank you all for stopping by, this blog is quite new although i have been making things for a while now.

As i said before, i used to make fairy figurines and had a go at doll-making over a year ago in an "on and off way" (2009 was quite a busy year for me with the birth of my little princess).

As i'm always quite slow making new ones, i won't be updating the shop for a couple of weeks but i will show you the dolls little by little until the shop update which will be on the 27th of june.
I'm thinking of working on a collection of fairytale's characters...

Yes there are some dolls who would have liked to be born as a fairy, Hazel is one of them, so to make her life a tiny bit brighter she paints her face with a pretty fairy make up, hoping that one day a lovely pair of wings will grow on her back...

While she's waiting, Hazel is dreaming about flying away high up in the sky and to sleep in a flower bed.

Hello there!

I'm back from London! It's funny, i used to live there and go back as often as i could, but my last visit did something special to me: i came back feeling more creative, inspired and i mainly realised that small and pretty things (that i own or not,) are just what i need to make me happy. I bought a little journal while i was in Portobello flea market and started to write down a little list of pretty words or things i loved... I suddenly felt like going to the nearest park to set a blanket on the grass to have tea and eat fairycakes with my dolls. It really does sound childish, especially when you are a mother, but it seems that i absolutely can't grow up and love doing this kind of thing, is it that bad doctor??
Well, luckily for me i have a great partner who just loves who i am and what i do even if dolls are not his things!! ha, really?!!
But he's just an amazing person, one of the rare one who perfectly understands what means a lot to me. One of the rare person who doesn't laugh at my childish and crazy ideas...

Anyway, i'm back home, day-dreaming a lot, starting new dolls and praying for the week-end to have a warm sunshine for a little Tea Party in the park (until i have my own garden!).

I'll be back soon with new little dolls to introduce you, until then, have a great time doing what makes you truely happy, who cares about what some random people think about you?? Personnaly i've decided to not care anymore...

London break....

Hi everyone!

The Doll and The Pea are taking a short break to London. They will be visiting family, eating cupcakes and doing a bit of shopping!

I haven't been to London for a little while now, too busy with bits and pieces, the main piece is quite big actually as we are restoring a little barn we bought a year ago. It seems that we can't see the end of it!! A real nightmare! Anyway, we thought we deserved a little city break so London here we come!! (fingers crossed for that volcano to not disrupt our flight!!)
